Disclaimer: Not true, didn’t happen.
Faramir’s breathing was deep and even as he slept, curled up on his side, his entire body flush against his lover’s. His head rested on Haldir’s shoulder, the soft copper and gray strands dark against the perfect strands of gold that would never know a single strand of gray for all eternity. The tiny lines at the corners of Faramir’s eyes and mouth told of many years gone by, years filled with laugher and happiness and all the love a Man could ever want. His body was still mostly firm and smooth, and not a single inch of it had escaped the gentle assault of Haldir’s lips, the loving caress of his hands, or the sensation of his warm breath causing tiny little thrills of pleasure to race over his skin.
They had lived and loved one another for decades, and though Faramir was aging and Haldir of course, was not, every time Faramir would gaze into the beloved blue eyes of his Elven-lover, he knew that Haldir still saw him as the most beautiful Man on all of Arda, just as he had on the day they’d met. The eyes, the hands, the words…everything down to the kisses that woke him every morning and the gentle caresses that soothed him to sleep every night let Faramir know that what they shared was would never end.
His first clue, of course, was when Haldir had told him he didn’t wish to sail with his brothers, though at the time, Faramir hadn’t believed his words were true. For a long while, he had actually thought Haldir was only saying that so that Faramir would agree to let him stay the night.
Faramir wanted to make love to Haldir of course, and he did, in fact, share his bed with him that night. The first time they were together, Faramir tried so hard not to fall in love, but it was a losing battle. He lost his heart that very night, and Haldir, having already lost his weeks before, made sure he never once regretted doing so.
The years had been good to them both, and neither Haldir in all his long years, nor Faramir in his relatively few ones had ever known such happiness.
Haldir never did sail, and though he spoke often of his brothers, he never wished he had sailed with them, for he would not have traded his life with Faramir for all the time in the world with his family.
With a soft snuffle that always made Haldir smile, Faramir practically burrowed underneath him, resisting waking up for as long as possible. “Morning, love,” Haldir whispered, rolling over and pressing his lips to the corners of his lover’s mouth.
As usual, Faramir stubbornly kept his eyes closed, holding on to the last vestiges of sleep and frowning. “Mmmm…sleepy…go away…”
“I cannot go away, or you will sleep past breakfast and straight into lunch,” Haldir murmured, licking at Faramir’s neck and making him squirm in a vain and halfhearted attempt to get away. “And I planned on making love to you at least twice before lunchtime.”
That little tidbit of information managed to motivate Faramir to crack open one eye. “Only twice? Are you getting old, Haldir?”
Haldir laughed and gently brushed the hair back from Faramir’s forehead. It was an old joke between them, one that used to make Faramir’s heart ache until he came to realize that had their positions been reversed, he too would have chosen to bond, the very essence of his life tied to his lover’s so that they both would breathe their last breaths together. It was not a decision Haldir had made lightly, but Faramir, still starry-eyed and madly in love with the golden creature who meant everything to him after all these years, finally came to understand. They had many years behind them, and many before them, but neither Man nor Elf ever took one moment for granted.
As Haldir worried first one nipple, then the next with his teeth and tongue, Faramir finally stirred, opening both eyes and wrapping his arms around his lover’s shoulders. “Good morning, meleth.”
Their gazes met, and both Faramir and Haldir smiled, each gazing into the eyes they could lose themselves in for hours at a time. There was no need for words, for all the words had been spoken, and, for a moment, as their hearts found a matching rhythm, they each remembered everything…their first date, their first kiss, the first time they made love. All the laughter and tears and arguments and happiness that only longtime lovers could know passed between them, and Haldir’s hand gently slipped beneath Faramir’s neck, carefully lifting his head from the pillow until their lips met. It happened every morning, this meeting of their hearts, the beginning of a new day together, the assurance of one lover to another that nothing would ever part them, as their eyes met and they shared their first kiss of the day.
For some moments in life, there are no words, nor should there be, when everything that needs to be said can be spoken with the heart.
