It certainly wasn’t all sunshine and roses, Haldir thought as he looked ruefully up toward the talan he’d shared with his lover of almost a decade. Faramir was stubborn and often moody, and Gods, when he wanted something, he could pout like the most manipulative of Elflings, all big-eyed and innocent-looking despite the fact that he was a fully, and rather solidly built, grown man.
His hands, which could loose the stiffest bow or give the gentlest of caresses, could also slap against the table or the wall when he was frustrated – which normally only happened when Haldir disagreed with him. It seemed that despite himself, Haldir couldn’t keep his mouth shut at times, especially when they spoke of politics or treaties, of war and the differences between Men and Elves.
Like any other couple, they argued, and sometimes one or the other of them would have to take a walk through the forest to calm down and get their bearings.
But, by the Valar, they loved one another, and no disagreements or arguments or even frustrated-as-a-Balrog, narrow-eyed glares could ever take that away.
The arguments, though not all that frequent, were annoying of course, but what could one expect when a Ranger who had always thought he had to be better and stronger and wiser than anyone else around him, fell in love with a Marchwarden who had the reputation of being arrogant and distant and the most obstinate Elf in all of Lothlorien?
Whatever one expected, what they got was an Elf that loved his Ranger more than life itself, and a Ranger who loved him back just as devotedly.
Besides, Haldir thought with a grin as he headed up toward his home where Faramir was undoubtedly waiting with a few of ideas on how they could make up, the arguments were always settled before nightfall, and always in very, very interesting ways.
