It wasn’t the rain

It was the rain, Faramir thought decisively that was causing him to shiver; he had been out in the rain for ages and his clothes were soaked through and sticking to his skin. It was not the gentle touch that peeled the clothes from his body.

It was the rain, Faramir thought confidently that caused him to feel light-headed; the storm had disorientated him a little, that was all. It was not the intoxicating scent of the man standing close to him.

It was the rain, Faramir thought hesitantly that caused his lip to tremble; the rain had chilled him to the bones. He would be alright again as soon as he had warmed himself by the fire. It was not in anticipation as the touch returned brushing along his jaw.

It was the rain, Faramir thought dubiously that caused him to seek out the warm embrace; he was still cold. It was not the thought of those welcoming arms around him.

It the rain that caused their lips to meet…

Nay, it was not the rain.
