Since the end of the war, Ithilian had blossomed and both Elves and Men were resettling the beautiful land, Faramir and his lover Haldir among them. During the great battle toward the end of the war Haldir had come to Gondor with other Elves of both Lothlórien and of Imladris to fight. When the battles were over and Haldir had visited the city of Minas Tirith and went to visit some of his Elves who had been injured in the battles at the Houses of Healing he'd met the new Steward of the city, Faramir. They had fallen in love the very instant they laid eyes upon each other and Haldir did not choose to return to his beloved Golden Wood, instead choosing to stay with his lover.

After many months, Ithilian was being rebuilt and Faramir was given land there by the new king and he and Haldir had decided to move there, partly to encourage others to resettle the area, and partly to be away from the pressure Faramir was under living within the city walls of Minas Tirith. It may have also been so that Faramir could escape the memories within the walls of the great city, memories of a beloved brother, and an estranged father who in his madness and despair had almost taken Faramir with him to his grave.

Surveying their new home, Faramir looked over at his lover and smiled. "I know this doesn't compare to your former home in the Golden Wood, but it is beautiful here. I hope…that you will come to love it here, meleth," he said softly.

Haldir moved to wrap both arms around his lover and smiled as sparkling blue eyes gazed back at him. “I already love it,” he whispered, “even more than the Golden Wood. While Lothlórien is beautiful, it lacks something…the most important thing of all…” Reaching up to gently brush Faramir’s hair back from his temples, he continued. “It lacks you, seron vell.”

Faramir smiled and felt his face color slightly from Haldir's words and leaned into his lover's touch. "My life would lack all beauty and light were it not for you in it, my love," Faramir whispered softly. When one of the men with the wagon containing their belongings cleared his throat Faramir laughed softly. "I suppose we should at least go inside, and start getting things moved in?"

His smile stretched from ear to ear, and Haldir too, flushed from his lover’s words. He pressed a final kiss to beloved lips and nodded before reaching for Faramir’s hand. Giving it a gentle squeeze, Man and Elf walked inside and simply stood in the middle of the front room. “I’ll make you forget all the bad things,” he whispered against the shell of Faramir’s ear. “I’ll do everything I can to make sure you remember nothing but the good times with your brother, and the happy memories we’re going to make from this moment on, I swear, meleth.”

Faramir smiled as Haldir whispered to him and he turned to face his lover. "You have already given me countless happy memories, Haldir. I have no doubt that our new home here will be filled with many more happy memories to come," he whispered. Pressing his lips to Haldir's in a sweet kiss, he smiled as they drew apart again. A few moments later men began moving their belongings into the house and they reluctantly parted to begin helping. After many hours, the lovers were alone again, and had sat down to take a break from unpacking what seemed hundreds of trunks. "You know...I'm glad we started with the bedroom first," Faramir mused, not even realizing how his words could be taken.

Haldir couldn’t help but be delighted at Faramir’s innocence as he spoke. Haldir had been Faramir’s first in so many senses of the word…the first to make love to him, the first suitor that ever proclaimed his love, and the first, Faramir confessed, that he himself had ever flirted with. “I’m glad we started with the bedroom too,” he grinned as he nuzzled against the warm skin of his lover’s neck. “We could make sure the bed is sturdy, you know. All in the name of safety…”

Faramir laughed as he realized how his last words had been taken and nodded even as he shivered from his lover's lips against his skin. "Oh...yes, of course, safety. I hadn't thought of that. I knew there was a reason I loved you," he teased as he stood up and held his hand out to his lover. They moved together toward the bedroom of their new home slowly because they stopped numerous times to kiss and touch one another along the way. Faramir smiled as they closed the door to their bedroom together realizing they were already building happy memories inside their new home.
