Story is set in Gondor, during spring of 2999 (Faramir is sixteen). I’m tweaking chronology so that the time Thorongil spends in Gondor overlaps with the lives of Boromir and Faramir.

The history of Númenor as well as Gondor shows that no race is immune to the lure of evil. In The Return of the King, we are told that the Mouth of Sauron was said to be “of the race of those that are named the Black Númenoreans; for they established their dwellings in Middle-earth during the years of Sauron’s domination, and they worshipped him, being enamoured of evil knowledge.” This fic’s AU premise is that during their long exile, Aragorn’s line and many of the Dúnedain joined the Black Númenoreans in worship of Sauron. The date is 3008. Faramir, 25, has been newly appointed Captain in Ithilien.

The DELETED scenes that I’d like to see make it back into THE TWO TOWERS. This story draws on both Tolkien’s book and Jackson’s film, interspersed with all the fun stuff that they left out, all about Frodo and Faramir’s meeting in Ithilien. Frodo and Sam have been lovers since Lothlorien, but he understands when Frodo falls (hard) for Faramir since (after all), Frodo and Sam will be leaving soon!

Major AU premise is that Faramir has another dream and follows Boromir secretly. When Boromir discovers him, Faramir refuses to return and forces Boromir to allow him to come along. Minor premise: Sam married Rosie and settled down to raise family well before the Quest began.
